The Commonwealth Pub
Local restaurant mogul and performing musician teamed up to bring something to Bend the likes of which hadn’t been seen– a British pub. This particular watering hole aspired to become a lightning rod for musical performances, food & drink from the Commonwealth nations and a gathering place for like-minded individuals that shared similar world views. I worked with the founding partners to present logo concepts that brought their vision to life. Our collaborative result was a quirky take on the London Underground’s iconic brand mark that pushes the appropriation into new meaning.
Beginning Stages
You can expect a brisk round of pencil sketches to start us off. This step in the process ensures that we are all on the same page regarding the visual look and feel you are desiring without investing too much time. A wonderful ‘getting to know’ the brand phase that contributes to discussion and collaboration.
New ideas can emerge from the sketch stage and it was at this point my client stated ‘What about the Underground logo?’ With that, we were on our path. Once sketch stage has been completed you can expect digital roughs similar to the examples on this page. Seeing things in digital helps solidify the final outcome.
Final Decision & Iteration
Now we were really rolling. My client instantly responded to the iconic Underground band+circle. Meanwhile, we were able to leverage more distinct elements from other marks we had created to make the icon our own.
Logo Design System
Our main mark looks awesome in its full footprint, however, a system of graceful degradation would need to be put into effect in order to translate to the world of digital and small size print display. Our flexible logo system works across receipts, the website and even social media.
Brand Guidelines
To top it all off– I created a comprehensive brand guidelines document to assist the team in implementing their exciting new system.
