Consumer Packaged Goods
It all comes together with packaging. The intersection of brand, the product and real-world constraints. I have navigated the packaging design process countless times and look forward to finding your ideal solution.
Hazetron Imperial Hazy IPA
My team asked me to create the concept and design direction for our newest imperial hazy IPA. Hazetron is a relentlessly hoppy beer utilizing innovative cryo hops and pellets. I took the futuristic concept of the beer itself and created a place for the brand in the family of IPA’s at Deschutes.
In 2021, Boneyard Beer was acquired by my company. The product had just made its introduction into retail with stickered cans and was ready to make the jump to a larger production figure. This meant everything was going into a new pack type. I led the design and production of the entire line of products.
Tropical Fresh IPA
An exciting beer featuring a personified hop cone. This beer was another great exercise in innovation around our IPA product line. Notable achievements that set this beer apart is the product advantage in the lower left hand corner, and improved background graphics.
Variety Pack - Tropical
Results are in, tropical flavor sells beer. As such, for our 2023 release we planned a tropical direction for our rotating variety pack. A new title graphic would alert buyers of the theme, while adding tropical background patterns to enhance this message.
Farmstand Fresh Mango IPA
Noticing a spot in our portfolio, we dove in to this fruit beer project. The goal here was to leverage a new beer– and its special ingredient mango. We did this by coloring the hop in the mango fruit pattern and boosting its salability with graphics espousing its theme.
Rip City Lager
During the spring of 2021 we partnered with the Portland Trailblazers to create a collaboration beer. After the beer name and liquid were decided it was my responsibility to create its packaging. Working tightly with the Blazers’ brand team we created a flannel design to honor the origin of the RipCity team nickname coined in 1977.
Black Butte Non-Alcoholic
Black Butte NA was introduced to our portfolio to address the rise of sobriety among former craft beer fans. We worked closely alongside the original Black Butte Porter’s equity to create our own answer to it. The colorway change and inclusion of pint glass increase interest in the the delicious product while differentiating it.
Limited Edition Four Packs
On occasion, a product needs a touch of class in order to justify its top-shelf priority. These delectable limited packs are designed to entice and seduce you with the rich product they feature.
Bottle Variety Pack
Seeking a more thorough refresh on this pack, we set out to touch up some of the design elements and modify the typography. We went with a more on-brand feel that also compliments our ‘Born in Bend’ slogan.
Illustrative Mascot Pilsner
We chose the esoteric, featuring a toaster illustration referencing the crispy texture of the grain bill ingredients and flavor of the beer. The illustration motif is very on-trend, and lives in the realm of mascot figures.
Sometimes a product comes along and it may serve as a collaboration or event piece. At this point, the parent brand becomes a distant sponsor and we get to have a lot of fun with this one-time offering.
